As we're gearing up for a new semester, I would like to give you this space to discuss what your expectations for Spring 2011 are, not just in regards to this class but for your semester at large. Remember that I require a 250 word post up by Thursday night and a 100 word response to someone else's post by Sunday night.
Moving into Composition 2, I expect this class to be quite similar to Composition 1 yet more challenging because it is a higher level class. I hope to become a better writer, and to learn as much as I possibly can and apply the techniques to my other classes. I feel that Comp is not my strong point as a college freshmen but I hope to make it one by the end of this semester. It seems like it will be an interesting class already, and so I can not wait to see what I will be learning throughout these next few months. This class seems to have a lot to offer, and if I do not learn anything from the class then I am sure that there would be something wrong with me. Although many interesting topics are forbidden, there are many more topics out there that I can do that will get me out of my comfort zone and into learning more then I could imagine.
ReplyDeleteAs this semester moves forward I have a goal of setting straight A's no matter how hard it will be. I know that I will be busy, and see many temptations but I hope to keep those temptations under control and succeed to the highest of my ability. I can not wait to see how this spring semester moves along as I continue in my journey as a college student. My classes are all challenging and they all seem to be interesting as well, so I guess I will find out soon enough. :)
I expect the upcoming semester to be a great deal different than last semester for me. This is because this semester, I am finally over my senioritis and taking nineteen credits, which is already proving to be a huge burden. Though I made good grades last semester, I plan to make my grades even better this time around, and possibly shoot for straight A's (though with accounting as one of my classes, it seems that that will be a great challenge). I am generally a procrastinator like no other, but so far this semester I am being better when it comes to starting assignments and reading on time. Part of the solution was probably realizing that there is simply no way I can make decent grades this semester while procrastinating the least little bit. As far as this class goes, I expect that it will be challenging, but a little better of an experience than Composition I, for me at least. Now that I have the writing skills obtained from first semester, I feel that I am ready to fully take on this class and will be able to enhance my writing skills even more by the end of the Spring. I am not an amazing writer, but when I put forth the time and the effort into every aspect of each project and begin each draft early, I am able to write fairly well. I am looking forward to this semester, as well as this class, and hope to get a lot out of it.
ReplyDeleteFall 2010 was not as great as I thought it would be. I planned on not coming back to USF for spring but I decided to give it another shot. I can honestly say that my writing skills have not been growing at the certain pace I expected it to I'm hoping that they will in ENC1102. School comes very easy to me and I guess you can say math and sciences are my forte. When it comes to solving math problems I don’t stress out if I can’t figure out the problem because I know I will eventually figure it out. On the other hand if I have a research paper due it takes me years to finish. I don’t enjoy writing because I know I’m not good at it. What I’m hoping for in this class is the enjoyment of writing and not to become stressed out when I have papers due. I know it’s apart of college and I would like to be at least descent in this subject. So far after being in the class one day I’ve learned so much already about ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos. I’m looking forward to seeing how this class will enhance my writing skills. Overall my class schedule is pretty sold every class I have is preparing me for the future. I now this sounds cliche to say this but my goal is to get straight A’s this semester. So I’m ready to take this semester and give it another shot.
ReplyDeleteNow that Comp II is getting into full swing, I’m bracing myself at this point. I’ve heard stories of what is to come and believe me, you don’t want to read on if you enjoy work as little as me. Ten page papers, community service, and we may actually have to articulate our opinions! Sounds like parole, I know, but I’m actually looking forward to this semester. Writing is a very useful tool that is applicable to just about every career except maybe in the unlikely chance you become the next big pop singer. Even then you’ll have to write thank you letters to the writers of the songs you’re making bank off of, so the point? Writing is important and taking a semester long course of it can only help. I was a little disappointed though that Mr. B outlawed the marijuana debate. It’s probably my all-time favorite debate and I was kind of hoping to turn in an old, tweaked-up, high school paper. I’m not too enthusiastic about having to do more research, but that’s my luck I guess. However, I am more than happy to learn about new topics and am looking forward to giving an A+ effort! Well maybe an A-…
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the semester as a whole I am a lot less anxious and worried. I’m taking an easy course load and as school goes on the weather is only going to get nicer. Both are polar opposites from last semester. Now that I have the freshman jitters out of the way and half a year under my belt, I’m ready for the college experience take two.
As the second semester to my freshman year in college begins to find its rhythm I find myself reflecting on my first semester at the University of South Florida. In my reflections I’m able to establish realistic goals for my second semester since I now have a better grasp of what to expect considering I’ve experienced it once before. After attending Composition I in my first semester and having my expectations for the class realized, a good background in formatting college level papers and certain techniques to help write said papers, I feel that I’m sufficiently capable of handling what Composition II has to offer. Considering that I want to attend law school to fulfill my ultimate goal of being an accomplished and respected lawyer then the overall theme of Composition II, forming a logical and effective argument, will be the foundation on which I build my career. Essentially my expectation of Composition II is, at the end of the semester, to see an improvement in my ability to debate effectively among my friends and peers. I have an overarching goal though for the entirety of the semester, not just in regards to Composition II but also my academic career at the University of South Florida. This goal is to find some semblance of a job so that I may begin to accumulate money to put towards a place of my own. This may seem clichéd but nonetheless it is a goal that I have set for myself and one I will see accomplished.
ReplyDeleteI feel that I had a great fall semester, and I want to keep this momentum going by continuing to make my writing skills better in this class and also doing well in my other classes which require small amount s of writing. Since the whole college atmosphere isn’t as intimidating as it was in the fall, I feel more confident about this class. We began to discuss ethos, pathos, and logos last semester, but I want to be able to take these terms and bring them into account in every article I read. Another goal I would like to accomplish in writing is to take some risks and try other styles of writing because I feel like my writing should be way beyond basic five paragraph essays.
ReplyDeleteAs for my other classes, I’m interested in learning about where other religions came from as well as different forms of art dating back to the Stone Age because one can tell a lot about a time period based on a piece of art they are looking at. Comp II, however teaches me how to analyze everything I read and look at from different perspectives.
I need to be able to speak up for myself much more because sometimes I’m not very loud, so people have a hard time understanding me. I’m also hoping that this semester will give me a better clue about what I want to do with my life because I don’t know what to do if a finance major doesn’t work out. I’m staying positive though.
Now that I am entering my third semester as a college student i am beginning to get the hang of things. At first I felt lost, not knowing where to go or what to do. Luckily, as time passed i quickly figured out the hang of things in my new environment. I am comfortable doing work completely on my own, and truly love the fact that i get to create my schedule. Last semester I could have done much better, and i realize that now.
ReplyDeleteThis semester on the other hand, i am setting my standards much higher then last. Now that i am rather situated i am going to push myself for greatness. I'm determined to get straight A's for the first time in college. By using things which i enjoy doing as my motivation to get my work done, i believe that this goal is accomplishable.
The classes which i am taking this semester will give me a fair amount of work, but it is something which i am well aware of. Composition II will benefit my writing ability, hopefully making me a better writer by the end of the semester. Pre-Calc will prepare me for Calculus next semester. As for my other classes, they are all pre requist courses which i need to finish to get accepted into the College of Business. I have my work cut out for me this spring, but i'm prepared for the challenge!
Spring semester is going to be a complete turn around for me. I could probably come up with a thousand excuses but I basically just didn't end up working hard enough in the fall for the grades that I really needed. Despite the fact that I'm now on academic probation, it definitely feels great to have a fresh start. I'm confident that with a new attitude as well as a lighter course load, I'll be able to excel here at USF. As for Composition specifically, I thought I did alright in 1101. The projects are where I got most of my points, but I ended up having a lot of trouble with the in class writing assignments. I don't know if it was just the pressure of a time limit or what, but hopefully I can find out where I went wrong so that I don't run into the same problems again. I really don't know what to expect from 1102, outside of the fact that it deals with a lot more rhetoric in writing than 1101. Besides that it sounds a lot like Composition from last semester, with all of the weight of the grade resting on the three main projects that make up the course. And to be honest, it's probably safe to say that I've learned the most in this class than anything else so far this semester. Maybe my other classes are taking a little longer to get started, but after today's discussion on tools of persuasion I'm feeling quite confident that I could end up getting a lot out of this class.
ReplyDeleteFall semester was a bit of a breeze for me. Not many challenges and not very different form the norm. I’m the type of person that thrives in changing situations and environments, and therefore I am hoping for spring 2011 to be a great semester for me. A lot of new things are happening for me this semester and I think I may finally get the change I am hoping for. As far as Comp 2 goes, I hope to learn a lot of interesting information, and meet more interesting people. In ENC 1102 I expect to better develop my writing skills and learn how to rhetorically analyze the writing of others in more depth. I also hope to learn more about myself, my strengths, weaknesses and abilities through my writing and from feedback from my peers. Outside of this class I am expecting to improve my leadership skills and gain experience in advertising. This semester I will be taking on two new leadership positions at USF. I have been an active member of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship since I started at USF in the summer of 2010. Because of my dedication I am about to take on these leadership positions with the expectation that I will succeed and gain necessary skills required in my future. In spring 2011 I am also expecting to make a final decision on my major and minor. I am currently majoring in marketing, but I am considering a change to advertising. Overall this semester I expect change for the better.
ReplyDeleteI have already noticed a huge difference from the beginning of Fall semester to the beginning of Spring Semester. The beginning of Fall semester, for me, seemed very slow paced. It was a time to get use to being away from home, and to get settled into college life. I have to say that although Fall semester was extremely busy with my classes, rehearsals and my sorority, I already find the Spring semester to be even more busy. Although Comp 2 is my only academic class my schedule is not as easy as people may think it is. When I tell people that I am a dance major automatically, most of the time, they all think it is easy. Now that I am use to being here at USF and use to my busy dance schedule I now know how to manage my time and make it through the day. There is so much going on this semester that I will always be busy. Most of my time is spent dancing and being in rehearsal but I still obviously have to make time for my Comp 2 class. Comp 1 was a bit of a challenge. We did a lot of writing and spent a lot of time working on Projects 1,2, and 3. I do believe however that Comp 1 helped with my writing abilities. Something I am looking forward too about Comp 2 is continuing to improve my writing and not procrastinating when it comes to the projects. My busy schedule sometimes causes me to procrastinate but this semester I am very determined not to procrastinate. I am hoping for another smooth and fast semester because even though I love being at USF and dancing here, I love being home!
ReplyDelete@arocha:
ReplyDeleteI agree with you completely. Even though you may not have all academic classes, being a dancer is basically like being an athlete. It fills up your entire day. I also feel I have already improved a lot from my fall semester to just the beginning of my spring semester. I feel that Comp 1 and Comp 2 will be similar in the way of we have three projects and we get the same amount of time to work on them in each class. I also think we all want this semester to run as smoothly as possible and we would all also like it to fly by so that we can all enjoy the summer and go home for a few months, until we all enter our next year. :)
My expectations for the spring 2011 semester are pretty high, not just for Comp 2, but for all of my classes. As far as Comp 2 goes, I expect to become a better writer and to be able to better develop and organize my ideas and facts. I know this class is going to require a lot of my time and from what I’ve heard it’s going to get a bit more difficult. I am hoping I’ll be able to find a way to balance all my classes and give each one of them the attention and time they need. I’m concerned I’ll end up slacking in this class, because writing typically comes easy for me, but I am definitely going to try my hardest not to let that happen, I don’t think it will be too hard though, this class already seems pretty interesting. My biggest concern is making sure I get these Discussion Boards done; I tend to forget about them. Overall though I’m pretty excited for the new semester! I have a few classes that are going to be hard and I know it’s going to be pretty challenging, especially as the year goes on; but as long as I don’t let myself lose focus or get lazy, it should be a really good year!
ReplyDeleteAs the new semester begins, I already have many expectations for this Composition 2 course and my other courses. I can already tell this is going to be a much tougher semester than my last one. All of my classes seem to require a lot of hard work and focus. Focusing specifically on this class, I hope to gain some writing experience. Since I wasn't required to take Comp 1, I'm hoping I'll be able to jump into Comp 2 with no problems. I hope to learn how to develop more persuasive arguments and format my papers in a way that's suitable for college. As for my other classes, I have started taking courses towards my accounting degree and hope to do well in those classes. I expect them to be a lot of work, but I believe that all of my courses this semester will be beneficial to my future degree. Of course I’m excited to have a fun semester as well. I’m hoping to find the perfect balance between homework and fun. I’m excited for the new semester, even though I’m a little wary of all the work. I discovered last semester however, that college is a balancing act and the work doesn’t seem so overbearing when you stay on top of it and add a little fun into the scenario. I’m excited for what spring semester 2011 has in store for me! Go Bulls!
ReplyDeleteThe fall semester of freshman year was a success, despite the fact that it took quite a bit of effort and dedication. Even though I had an extremely large amount of homework to complete every night, I ended the semester with the grades I was hoping for. I expect the spring semester to be an even bigger success for me now that I have experienced two semesters of college already and know how things work around here. I learned quite a bit of useful material from Composition 1 and am looking forward to even more in Composition 2. I am hoping to further my writing skills and be able to easily form an argument when debating with friends or peers, after Composition 2. I’m setting quite a few goals for the spring semester, which includes continuing to earn the grades I want in all of my classes. Also, I had a huge problem with procrastination in the fall semester and I always seemed to push the majority of my assignments until the night before it was due, causing a lot of pressure and stress. I would rather not go through all of that again and lose countless hours of sleep, so for the spring I’m making an effort to complete all of my assignments and studying in plenty of time, and not right before it’s due. Besides that, I also hope that my Introduction to the Teaching Profession class will help finalize my decision of being an elementary school teacher, so that I can declare my major in a few months from now, and not ever have to think twice of my decision. I also want to participate in more organizations since I never made time to do that much last semester after completing my work. All in all, fall semester was definitely memorable, but I’m planning on making spring semester even better!
ReplyDeleteAs the first two weeks of this spring semester come to an end, I have developed many expectations. I am excited for most of my classes, but also preparing for a heavier workload than in the fall. Even though I have barely delved into courses for my major, I became very aware that this semester is going to be difficult. I am taking more credit hours, which correlates to more hours of studying and homework. This is college though, and I expected this to happen. However, I have set academic goals for myself, just as I did in this past semester, which I achieved. Likewise, I hope to maintain my GPA and transition into my second year as a college student with all A’s. I know that this could be a challenging task, especially with volleyball and trying to maintain a social life. As long as I stay on top of my work, especially with online classes, I feel that I will be extremely successful.
ReplyDeleteMore specifically, I have expectations for English Composition II, as well. I really enjoyed my Composition I course last semester. I felt that I developed my writing skills tremendously in comparison to the writer I was in high school. I hope to continue this progress throughout this course, and acquire more tools and skills that will carry me through the rest of college and into the professional world too. I am excited to really get started in Composition II with our first project. I also look forward to the rest of the semester, and learning new techniques and information that currently I am unfamiliar with.
The reason why everyone attends school is in order to be more successful in life. So that is exactly my reason for attending USF. This semester I am looking to take school more seriously so that I can get myself one step closer to graduating. I have always been told that I am a good writer, so I am hoping to use English Comp 2 to improve my writing skills even more. With my major being business I will most likely using writing every day, whether it is sending emails or writing up business documents.
ReplyDeleteI have never taken school very seriously hence the reason I am still in college. I have already gone to school for four years, but decided to change my major right before graduation. At USF I am hoping to finally pick a major and stick with it until I graduate. I am looking to improve my overall GPA. It is going to take a lot of work and dedication to do this. I work full time and I am taking 16 credits, it is going to take a lot of organization to get through this semester and the rest of my time here at USF. I need to make sure I stay ahead of all my assignments that way I never get behind. I feel that once you are behind there is no catching up. I plan to do everything possible this semester to get everything done ahead of time and done to the level I know I am capable of working.

ReplyDelete@hillary
ReplyDeleteI can’t imagine taking 16 credit hours while working full time. It’s definitely going to be a challenge but you at least seem to know what to expect. As far of switching your major right before graduation, at least you’re making the university finances team happy? All I can say is you shouldn’t have stepped on that seal. I’m in the process of switching my major as well. Before I always hated answering what my major was or what post college plans I had because I wasn’t 100% confident with the answer I was giving. But I feel like I’m in the right place now and it’s a good feeling. Hopefully this semester will go smoother than you think so you can finally leave this place. Good luck!
For the Spring 2011 semester, I am expecting it to be much easier than the first semester. In the first semester, I had a very rough transition. All of my teachers were very difficult and tough graders and made my already hard general education classes impossible. The times for my classes were also all over the place which made it hard to allot time for studying, homework, and writing papers. Spring 2011 will be a fresh start and so much easier. All of my teachers I picked received very high ratings and were described to be genuinely good teachers. I really need to get straight A’s this semester and with the teachers I have, I am almost positive this is an easily attainable goal. So far I have been keeping up with all of my homework and studying and because I picked classes at reasonable hours, I am even keeping up with getting enough sleep.
ReplyDeleteIn comp 2, the projects this semester seem to be easier and almost interesting compared to the dreadful projects in comp 1. There seems to be much clearer instructions and the topics have more possibilities. Compared to my comp 1 teacher, Mr. Breckenridge doesn’t appear to be an incredibly tough teacher and may actually believe in giving people C’s on papers instead of failing everyone. I am definitely looking forward to this semester and I have a feeling everything is going to go very smoothly. I am foreseeing A’s in all of my classes I am sure of it.
I feel better enthusiastic about this spring semester. I like all of my five teachers and their methods of teaching. They all seem to care about helping their students pass and that is something that is very important for a student if he wants to succeed in all of his classes. I expect my teachers to continue to teach like they have so far so that me and my fellow students dont struggle with the material and dont fall behind. I hope that the projects in Comp II are as interesting as most of the Comp I projects were. If they are then i believe that i will have no problem in completing them and receiving a satisfactory grade on them. I also wish to improve my writting skills even more in this class since this is very important not just for my computer engineering major, but for everyday life. Communication is very important in today's world and writting is a crutial part of good communication skills. I already took Mr Breckenridge for comp II and he has already helped me develop my writting, so i am sure he will continue to do it this semester. I remember that during the beginning of Comp I, i had trouble completing the word count requirements for his blogs, but now its like a piece of cake. That right there tells me that my writting creativity has improved. I passed Mr B's class with a B last semester and one of my main goals this semester is to work harder in order to pass Comp II with an A. I know that if i do my best and turn everything in on time ill be able to do it.
ReplyDeleteThis semester, spring 2011, I expect classes to be challenging but not as demanding as last semester. I have a lot to improve on this semester and I also have a lot going on with extracurricular activities. I’m in a sorority here at USF and although I love it, it is also somewhat time consuming and can be demanding depending on how involved you become within it. Also, I am employed at the YMCA and although I don’t work there often during the week I do take some weekend to dedicate to work. I am double majoring in Chemistry and Spanish and hopefully minoring in either dance or sign language. Because of this, I have a lot of school to go through still and have to start preparing for graduate school as well. Therefore, I believe this semester will be challenging and somewhat demanding but not as hectic and demanding as last semester. Also, I believe this semester will be a little easier to handle schoolwork and extracurricular activities because I am now used to college and have transitioned to the schoolwork and my course schedules. I also really believe that my professors are patient and although I understand I have a lot of work to do, I believe they do their jobs well and are very available for extra help or tutoring should I need it. This being said, I am excited to jump back into school. I have had a month off and although it was very relaxing I am ready to start working again.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of my spring semester I automatically think of a really hard semester. I will be definitely overwhelmed with reading this semester so time management which is one of my weaker points will deff be tested to its extreme. All of my classes require reading ever week at least a chapter if not more so my past weekend asked me to read over 100 pages. It is hard retaining all of this info and knowing which goes where. Somewhat like being given 4 puzzle at one time and having to solve all of them. With this class though I am really looking to improve on my writing. Last semester I took comp one with Mr. Breckenridge and I chose to stay with him so he could watch my writing evolve over time. I am planning on doing something in the Mass Comm field. So writing will be one of my main tools, or at least the way I present myself and a lot can be interpreted through my writing. Besides the toughness of my schedule and the constant monitoring of my writing progress I should be pretty good on everything else. I would like to join some intramurals and I plan on finding an MMA gym up here to train at because back home I trained for 6 months and was getting pretty good but its been a while. Hopefully it is somewhat like riding a bicycle. This semester will be a good one though I know that forsure!
ReplyDelete@brittnicoral:
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that the spring semester is going to be quite different. I cannot imagine taking nineteen credits though! That is going to require a lot of time and effort, but I think if you stay on top of your work you will be fine. I have a major problem with procrastination as well. I love saving all of my assignments for the night before the due date. I am slowly starting to learn, like you mentioned, that it’s not going to help me maintain good grades, but rather set me back. Try to break down large projects or readings into small sections, spreading out the assignment over a few days. That might help you, even though I know it’s easier said than done. Good luck with the rest of your classes!
@brittnicoral
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine taking nineteen credit hours worth of class! That’s an absolutely incredible amount of time to put towards class-work! I can certainly see how this semester will be challenging for you, especially if you’re a recovering procrastinator. Certainly a large incentive to get the work done on time though since you will have little time for anything else but maybe I’m making too quick an assumption. I’m certain you’ll be able to get the work and the grades, including this class, since you seem quite confident in your ability to do so. I wish you luck for the spring semester and any other endeavors you choose to follow.
@bzackheim:
ReplyDeleteI totally understand. I am beginning my second semester here as a freshmen and it seems it is going to be a challenge. I am also a business major (International Business, I am in the BSN). Though last semester I made decent grades (A’s and B’s), I know that I could have done better as well. It seems that the problem is procrastination, for me at least. This semester, my goal is straight A’s; though I know that this may or may not happen, especially since I am taking 19 credits, and one of my classes is financial accounting, it’s a good goal to at least work towards to keep motivated and set higher standards. It sounds like you have your goals set and you are off to a good start, so good luck this semester!
@ bzackheim
ReplyDeleteIm entering my third semester as well... I feel like now I defiantly have a hang of things because I got here in the summer so I think we all had a head start! I thought summer and fall semester where very easy! I’m a business major too and although I’m not taking precalc I’m taking Business calc. Good thing your taking pre calc because Im completely lost in that class. I also have macroeconomics if you haven't taken that yet its difficult as well. Getting straight As for me seems pretty impossible but its something Im willing to work for. Business is the best major in my opinion so good luck!
@lindizzy91
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean about having a rough transition. My first semester my classes were all over the place too; it made finding time to get things done pretty challenging (and sleep was a difficult thing to get with classes at late hours). I also decided that this semester I was going to pick classes at reasonable hours and try to find teachers with good ratings, and so far I think I got some good professors. It is so much easier to keep up with things and get homework done (and actually have a good time) when classes are earlier and teachers are nicer! I hope you're right about the projects being easier this semester, although I didn't really have a difficult time in Comp 1, I had an excellent professor. I hope you get those A's!

ReplyDelete@Megan:
ReplyDeleteI also have a job that I don’t work during the week but am busy with at least one of the days of the weekends to be there, so I can kind of relate to you. I bet being in a sorority is a lot of fun and helps you make fond memories. I agree with you completely that even though this semester brings new challenging classes, it should be easier since we all have had at least a semester under our belt -two semesters for some- of college life. That’s very true about my professors too- all of them from the fall and spring semesters are dedicated and willing to do anything they possibly can to help their students succeed, if needed.
@Nsmart:
ReplyDeleteHey I know how you feel. My religions and arts classes require a lot of reading, so I really need to stay focused. If you’re worried about time management and getting all of your work done on time, you should go to the library and turn your phone off if you have a lot of work to do because I do that sometimes. That way you won’t have any reason to check it. Write brief notes as you’re reading because it really does help. The MMA sounds really cool. I’ve always wanted to try something like that, so good luck with it.
@kwalton11
ReplyDeleteWell we definitely have the same goal about setting straight A's this semester! I also agree with you about Comp 1 and Comp 2 being quite similar. Im sure it will be a little harder, but this Comp 2 class will help improve our writing even more than Comp 1 did. I am also not the strongest writer, so Composition is also not one of my strong points but as you said I hope to make it a strong point by the end of the semester. I can't even imagine how you handle all of you classes plus all of the volleyball you have to do. I know for a fact that it is so difficult to have such a busy schedule and maintain good grades. I can't wait to see what the spring semester has in store!
Ayyy yoo Max! I am totally there with you all the writing that we will be having to do this semester does not sound fun at all. On top of all the reading as well because I’m taking real classes this semester instead of fun pre reqs. Like you were saying though writing will be very important for (almost) anyone regardless the field so it’s a very useful tool. This semester is going to be a challenging one for me too and the more and more people I talk to about it, the more it seems like everyone is going to have to kick A** this semster. But the people that are prepared will succeed and I will be one of them fo sho!
ReplyDelete@lindizzy91
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you when you say that this semester should be easier than the last. I feel like last semester I was premature in my decision concerning declaring a major. I had a lot of trouble keeping pace with all of the prerequisite "weed-out" engineering courses. Now an economics major, sitting a more conservative set of general education courses, I'm feeling much more confident about the coming months. I also experienced the same issue as you did with having spread out classes. I think that played a big factor in breaking my focus and caused me to not make the best use out of my classroom lectures. This semester I registered early to avoid that situation and have a very clumped schedule that allows me to be finished with my classes early on in the day.
@Megan
ReplyDeleteYou most certainly seem like you've got an idea of what your doing this semester. I have considered getting a job, but i believe if i have a job i'll focus more on the job then school which isn't a good thing at all. You have a job though which is awesome, maybe a weekend job would be good for me. It doesn't collide with school as much, and its extra money in the pocket. Joining groups in school is also something i would like to do, but haven't gotten around to doing. Like me, you also want to get really good grades this semester, and i respect that. Hopefully we both accomplish what we plan too this semester

ReplyDeleteI have to totally agree with the different paces of the fall and spring semesters. Fall seemed to pick up much slower and I had time to adjust. Now I feel like Spring classes started really quickly and I've already had quizzes and huge homework assignments. Though I'm definately not a dance major, I do agree that time management is important and I think I'm already beginning to have a bigger problem with it this semester than last. Hopefully I can get my stuff together!
@jalasmar. I know the feeling of possibly not coming back to school in the spring. I thought about doing the exact same thing. I transferred to USF not very long ago, and I just do not enjoy it as much as my last school. I am giving it another chance this semester and I am hoping it will go better. It is good to hear that I am not the only one in the same situation. I hope that you work hard and do as well as you wish to this semester and you keep working on your education at USF.

ReplyDeleteI also hope that I do not forget about the discussion board posts. I was fairly consistent with the discussion posts last semester but, I did tend to forget a few of them and am hoping to do better this semester. Also, my expectations for this semester are high for all of my classes, and not just for this English class. I expect and I hope that this class will teach me how to become a better writer and how to continue to improve my writing skills. Overall, I concur that I will have to push myself this semester if I want to stay on track and focused.

ReplyDeleteI feel the exact same way about grades first semester. I struggled a lot with completely focusing and aren’t on academic probation, but in my mom’s eyes I may as well be. I had similar issues in comp 1 in that I did pretty good on the projects but in my class, it was impossible to get higher than a B on anything, meaning that the yearned for A was far out of reach. I like the fresh start that a new semester brings and all of the new opportunities that I feel like I now have, despite my disappointing first semester.
Sorry I'm a tiny bit late; when my OTL at orientation said to get involved on campus I did just that, and forgot about time management skills. But what I expect from this class is a simple elaboration of stuff I have already learned. In high school I took English honors, AP English, and AP literature, so I'm used of writing and being bombarded with literary terms. I was lucky to have the greatest teachers that were able to give me plenty of one on one mentoring. Unfortunately there are a bunch of gaps teachers at that level choose to skip over and not explain as detailed. Whether this was a lack of time or planning, I have no Idea. Well this spring I expect to have those gaps filled as well as become a more developed writer in the process. I feel like there’s always something new to learn especially in this subject. I enjoy writing and Mr. Breckenridge seems like a great teacher. I expect to be expected to think outside the box with our papers and research and dig deeper with our research. Although we touched a little on research in comp 1, there were still many areas of that process that were not fully explained. But besides all the work, I expect to have fun and enjoy this class. I also expect to meet my class mates on a more personal level (non-creeper like). So despite me being a tiny bit late at this, I'm ready for a successful semester and now that the rugged first couple of weeks are out the way, I expect to do great things in the class.

ReplyDeleteI give you props for still sticking through and staying focused. Not only did u change your major at the last minute but you also work full time. Free time must be a luxury! Even though you are a business major and I'm computer engineering, I can still relate because I feel as though comp 2 will also develop my skills as a writer, and being a better writer will help anyone express themselves better in the job market. Although this is all so cliché, because I'm pretty sure you hear this often I just wanted to acknowledge your post and let u know I'm glad you found a new passion.
I agree with Jalasmar in that in my opinion, fall 2010 wasnt what i thought it would be grade wise. I was very disappointed because i know i could have done better. This semester is where i reedem myself. I will study hard to achieve the grades i know i can obtain. In this class in particular, i know i have the potential to get an A, and i will do all that is required so that i can get it. I hope that i stay focused throughout the semester as i am right now and if i do, i know i can achieve A's on my transcript.
ReplyDelete@Nsmart Wow, that really must suck. How many credit hours are you taking? Well I guess since this semester we go to pick our own classes, I would think you prepared yourself accordingly based on what you signed up for. Well I hope this semester isn’t too stressful for you. Anyway, I think it was a smart idea of you to stick with Mr. Breckenridge this semester because you already know his teaching style so you won’t have to go through that whole “getting into the motion” process like the rest of us. I wish I could’ve stuck with my old English teacher, Ms. Diaz, but she’s not teaching comp two this semester unfortunately. But back to you, intramurals sound cool, I was actually thinking about volleyball myself, since I’m nowhere near good enough for a pro team. By the way what is an MMA gym? Sounds interesting!

ReplyDeleteWell this is going to be interesting being I am posting this with only 3 weeks left of the semester, but all in all, it is being posted and that’s all that matters. Looking back to how I felt in the beginning of the semester, I remember not being excited at all. I had a horrible Fall semester, and was not looking forward to the spring semester. I can’t wait to be done with my English and math classes so I can finally start into my major, where neither of those apply. I knew I was going to struggle with my classes because I have horrible time management and in the beginning and throughout the semester I suffered from severe depression. I did struggle through the spring semester very much so. My expectation the class was actually very optimistic because my ENC 1101 teacher, Jaquira Diaz said very nice things about you, Mr. Breckenridge, giving me the idea that it may actually be an interesting class. Looking back now, I’m glad I took this class because I actually thoroughly enjoyed how you taught the class. Although I hate English and writing, this class stood up to the expectations Mrs. Diaz put you up to.

ReplyDeleteWe’ve been in school together for the past 3 semesters! We finally made it through our first year of college. I felt lost too, but I think everyone does when they first get to college. Struggling with you through our classes together last semester (funny how we always end up having at least one class together ) was a learning experience and you are completely correct when you say you should set your standards higher! I’m sure you’re going to do great in your years coming up in college, and you’ll definitely get into the College of Business.
